Hear the band play 'Plus Ultra' by Astor Piazzolla

TANGO VIVO was formed in 1998 when six classical musicians from Bognor Regis became fascinated with the sound of the tango - so much so that they decided to form a band to play the music for themselves, much of which was only available in France at that time.

However, a trip to Paris resulted in the acquisition of the orchestral parts of the twenty most famous tangos of Astor Piazzolla, who settled in Paris after his flight from Buenos Aires. Subsequently piano parts of a number of tangos by Carlos Gardel were discovered, and several of these have been orchestrated and arranged for the band by Harold Murphy, a well-known local composer and arranger. Harold also orchestrated for the band "La Comparsita" and "Blue Tango" (Leroy Anderson). Further music is continuing to come to light - the piano part of "Ecxstasy" (Delmonte) was found in an attic in Canterbury - and is being arranged for the band.

TANGO VIVO plays tangos in the French style, typical of those played in France in the 1920's and 1930's, with the use of an accordion rather than a bandoneon, which is the standard instrument of the Argentinian Tango Band. It is the accordion which gives the music its typical Parisian flavour.
