Synopsis
Geoffrey Challoner, the impoverished squire of a Devonshire village, has let his manor to wealthy Sir Joseph Verity and gone off, with his faithful servant Barry to seek his fortune.
When he returns, he has with him the Indian Princess Mehelaneha and a Rajah who is no rajah at all but an Englishman who fictitiously fell off an Alp, years ago, to escape an encumbering wife.
The Princess is anxious to give herself and her vast fortune to Geoffrey, and Barry actively promotes the match, but Geoffrey's heart is true to his home-town Marjorie Joy.
While he has been away, Marjorie Joy has become a famous singer, but she returns home and puts on her old sunfrock and bonnet and pretends to be still the little village girl.
Barry's sweetheart, Sophie becomes Madame Sophie, a couturière.
Misunderstandings intervene - notably a chaste kiss between Geoffrey and the village flirt, his old friend Nan - before the lovers are reunited, in the midst of a series of comical scenes, at a ball in a London mansion.
